Who Can Apply for Tamil Nadu MBBS/BDS Counselling?

Eligibility Criteria for Management and NRI Quota
Candidates applying under the Management or NRI Quota must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Qualify NEET UG 2026.
- Meet the minimum qualifying percentile:
- General: 50th Percentile
- SC/ST/OBC: 40th Percentile
- General-PwD: 45th Percentile
- Pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as compulsory subjects.
- Obtain minimum PCB marks:
- General: 50%
- SC/ST/OBC: 40%
- General-PwD: 45%
- Obtain an Eligibility Certificate from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University if the qualifying examination is from a board other than Tamil Nadu State Board, CBSE or ICSE.
- Not be currently pursuing MBBS or BDS anywhere in India or abroad.
- OCI/PIO candidates are eligible only under the Open Category and may apply for NRI seats where applicable.
NRI Quota Eligibility and Required Documents
Candidates can apply under the NRI Quota if:
- They are of Indian origin settled abroad.
- They were born abroad to parents of Indian origin.
- They are sponsored by an eligible NRI relative such as parents, grandparents or first-degree paternal/maternal cousins.

- NRI Status Certificate issued by the Indian Embassy or OCI Card.
- Relationship Certificate issued by the competent authority.
- Sponsor’s valid Indian Passport.
- Sponsor’s NRE Bank Account Passbook.
- OCI Card and Birth Certificate (where applicable).
- Ward Certificate (Annexure II), wherever applicable.

Counselling Process
Tamil Nadu conducts online counselling through the official website.
The counselling process consists of:
- Round 1
- Round 2
- Round 3
- Stray Vacancy Round
Separate merit lists are prepared for Government Quota, Management Quota, NRI Quota and Minority Quota.
Seat allotment becomes valid only after the candidate pays the tuition fee and downloads the allotment order within the specified deadline.
Round 1 provides a free exit option. From Round 2 onwards, resignation or non-joining can lead to forfeiture of the security deposit, tuition fee and a discontinuation penalty of ₹10 lakh.
Candidates who have already joined an AIQ or State Quota seat are not eligible to participate in the Tamil Nadu Stray Vacancy Round.
