2The "Top" AIIMS

Most established and most competitive.

AIIMS New Delhi (1956)

The original and No. 1 β€” NIRF's top medical college for years; UR closes near AIR 48. The benchmark.

The "Phase-I 2012" six

Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Rishikesh β€” the oldest new AIIMS, the most sought-after after Delhi (UR ~390–1,540).

Rising newer AIIMS

Nagpur, Mangalagiri, Bibinagar and others are climbing; even the "easiest" AIIMS closes within the top ~3,600 AIR nationally.

3Admission Process β€” the Same for Every AIIMS

Since 2020, AIIMS has no separate entrance exam. Admission to every AIIMS is through NEET-UG, followed by centralised counselling by the MCC (DGHS), 100% All-India Quota β€” there is no state domicile and no management/NRI quota. Reservation follows central rules (UR / EWS / OBC-NCL / SC / ST + PwD). You fill AIIMS choices in the same MCC rounds as other central/deemed colleges.

4Fee β€” Almost Free

AIIMS offers among the most subsidised medical education in India.

Fee head (AIIMS Delhi; others similar)Amount
Academic feeβ‰ˆ β‚Ή1,628 / year (β‰ˆ β‚Ή6,080 for the course)
Hostel & other chargesβ‰ˆ β‚Ή4,228 / year
Foreign nationals (whole course)US $75,000
Perspective: a full MBBS at AIIMS costs roughly β‚Ή6,000 in academic fees β€” versus β‚Ή50 lakh–₹1 crore at private/deemed colleges. That, plus the brand and hospitals, is why AIIMS cutoffs are the toughest in the country.

5Cutoff β€” How to Read It

All seats are All-India-Quota, so a single NEET rank list applies. In 2025 the UR (Open) Round-1 closing rank ranged from ~48 at AIIMS Delhi to ~3,597 at AIIMS Madurai β€” meaning even the least-competitive AIIMS wants a rank inside the national top ~3,600 (for UR). Reserved-category closing ranks go deeper (e.g., OBC/SC/ST). Final closing ranks after mop-up/stray rounds are somewhat deeper than Round 1. Treat these as the pattern, not a guarantee.

6Important Points

Institutes of National Importance

Each AIIMS is created by an Act of Parliament β€” autonomous, with its own degrees.

Nominal fee, top hospitals

~β‚Ή1,600/year, large teaching hospitals, stipended internship, on-campus hostels.

All-India, no domicile

Seats are 100% AIQ via MCC β€” your home state doesn't matter; only your NEET rank does.

Still expanding

More AIIMS are under construction (Darbhanga, Awantipora, Rewari) and proposed β€” the network keeps growing.

NExT ahead

The National Exit Test (NExT) is planned as the common final-MBBS/licensing exam β€” check current NMC notifications.

Delhi is the benchmark

AIIMS Delhi remains the most competitive and highest-ranked; newer AIIMS build reputation over time.
