NTA Issues Revised Tie-Breaking Guidelines for NEET UG 2024

NTA issues revised Guidelines for Tie Breaking Criteria for NEET UG 2024

By Vineet Pandey (NEET Expert, ClasstoCollege)

National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued revised guidelines for Tie Breaking Criteria for NEET UG 2024. Tie Tie-breaking criteria are required when deciding the ranking of candidates. Who have scored the same in the said examination which is to be conducted on 05th May, 2024.

The revised rules for the Tie Breaking Criteria are as follows:

  1. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by,
  2. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the Test, followed by,
  3. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Physics in the Test, followed by,
  4. Candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects.
  5. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology)
  6. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry
  7. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics

This would be the criteria set by the NTA as of now. But it still doesn’t give clarity that if two or more candidates are equal even till the “g” point then how the ranking would be decided between them.

For instance, if two candidates score 720 out of 720 then they both would be equal in all parameters stated above.

In the previous Information Bulletin issued by NTA, the last criteria for deciding the tie-breaking was by drawing lots. The exact words used by the National Testing Agency are, “Draw lots by using the computer or IT with no human intervention.”

Thus we need to wait for more clarity or another Information Bulletin from NTA. With regards to the revised guideline, the set rules are still incomplete and would lead to confusion. We also can see that the last rule needs to be followed by other criteria as the said criteria end with “followed by” without any rule following it.

One may access the Revised Information Bulletin issued by the National Testing Agency by going to the Information Tab.
