MCC Notice for NRI Quota Candidates in NEET UG/PG Counselling 2026
The Medical Counselling Committee, MCC, has issued an important notice for students who want to apply under the NRI quota in upcoming UG and PG medical counselling for the academic year 2026-27. This notice is also important for candidates who want to get their nationality converted from Indian to NRI.
The notice is based on the eligibility criteria laid down by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in the case Anshul Tomar vs State of M.P.
Who can apply under NRI quota?
As per the notice, students can be considered eligible under NRI quota in the following cases:
1. If parents are NRI
If the mother or father of the student is NRI and normally residing abroad, the candidate may be considered for NRI quota.
2. If first-degree relation is NRI
If a first-degree relation of the student is NRI and living abroad, then also the candidate may be considered. This includes real brother or real sister also.
3. If nearest blood relation is NRI
The notice also talks about nearest relatives having blood relation. This may include:
Father’s real brother or sister
Mother’s real brother or sister
Paternal grandfather or grandmother
Maternal grandfather or grandmother
First-degree paternal or maternal cousins
But here one important point is there. The NRI person should not be just a sponsor name on paper. MCC has mentioned that the person should have looked after the student as guardian, and proof for the same may be asked.
Important document requirement
MCC has clearly said that during counselling, candidates may have to submit evidence or legal documents to prove that the NRI sponsor is a bona fide legal guardian of the candidate as per the Guardians and Wards Act, 1890.
An affidavit may also be required with the above facts.
What students should do now?
Students planning to apply under NRI quota should start preparing their documents early. They should check whether their sponsor falls under the eligible relation and whether they have proper proof to show the relation, NRI status, residence abroad, and guardian connection.
This notice is very important because without proper documents, NRI quota claim may create problem during counselling.
