The official notice from the Uttar Pradesh Government regarding admissions for MBBS/BDS courses in the state for the 2024-25 session mentions a key point that could impact UP private college cutoffs in Round 1.
Free Exit Option in Round 1
The notice states that candidates who get allotted seats in government and private medical/dental colleges during the first round of counselling will have a “free exit” option. This means if a candidate doesn’t take admission after the first round, their earnest money will be refunded.
Potential Impact Due to these changes
This free exit option might lead to a rise in cut-offs for private colleges in Round 1 for the following reasons:
- More Students Opting for Private Colleges: Students aiming for government colleges may initially apply to private colleges as a backup, even if their score might qualify them for a government seat later. This could inflate the initial cut-offs for private colleges.
- Uncertainty in Government Seat Allotment: Some students might choose private colleges in Round 1 to secure a seat while they wait to see if they get a government college in later rounds.
Registration Process for Uttar Pradesh Counselling:-
ⅰ. For the counselling of UP NEET UG-2024, it will be mandatory for the candidate to register on the website https://upneet.gov.in by paying the prescribed registration fee.
ii. Registration fee for counselling will be payable as follows:-
a. For first/second and third round counselling Rs.2,000/- (Rupees two thousand only)
b. Rs 1,000/- (Rupees one thousand only) for Stray Vacancy Round
iii. To participate in the Stray Vacancy Round, it will be mandatory for all eligible candidates to do fresh registration.
iv. Registration fee will not be refundable under any circumstances.
What This Means for You
If you’re aiming for a private medical/dental college in UP, consider the following:
- Be prepared for potentially higher cut-offs in Round 1. Studying previous year’s cut-offs for private colleges might not be a completely accurate predictor this time.
- Strategize your choice filling. You might want to prioritize private colleges you’d be happy attending even if you get a government seat later.
- Consider participating in the second round. If you don’t secure your desired seat in Round 1, the second round might offer more options as some students might exercise their free exit option.
