Supreme Court’s U-turn on Grace Marks!
When NTA was questioned about 67 students getting 720 out of 720 marks, NTA said that the reason behind this was grace marks. NTA had said in its clarification that due to loss of time at some exam centres, a total of 1563 students were given grace marks, due to which 44 students got 720 marks. However, after the hearing in the Supreme Court today, NTA was directed to cancel the grace marks.
Students Who Have Received Grace Marks have These Two Options
Students who have been given grace marks by NTA have been given two options. These students can either appear for the re-exam on 23rd June or they can proceed for counselling with the old score without grace marks. Candidates who are confident that they can perform well in the re-exam can decide to appear for the re-exam.
Only 1563 Students will have to take the NEET Exam Again
The Supreme Court, while hearing the petitions filed after the NEET result, said that only 1563 students who got grace marks will be given a re-examination. Earlier, the NTA had said that the problem is limited to the results of only 1563 students out of about 24 lakh students. The rest of the students have no problem.
No Ban on NEET UG Counselling
The Supreme Court has again reiterated today that there will be no ban on NEET UG counseling. Students can participate in the counseling round. NEET exam will be held again on June 23 and its result is expected to be declared on June 30. So that NEET counseling can start in July. NTA said that this decision is being taken to remove the fear of students.
What is the Harm of Giving Grace Marks?
In fact, when NTA, which conducted the NEET exam held across the country on May 5, released the result on June 4, there was an uproar across the country. The reason was that while 67 children got 720 out of 720 marks, more than this, 1563 children were given grace marking. This grace marking was not for 10, 20 or 30 marks but for 100 to 150 marks, due to which many students who were out of merit came into the merit list and it became difficult for the students who were in merit to get admission in government colleges.
