The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has increased the MBBS & BDS stipends by 100%, i.e., from INR 12,300 to INR 25,000. The decision was taken for the MBBS and BDS interns working in various government health institutions of the Union Territory.

The committee, constituted on June 27, 2023, under the chairmanship of the director of finance, made the decision, as stated by the Minister of Health and Medical Education in answer to the legislators Salman Sagar and Sunil Kumar Sharma in the J&K assembly. The HME has recommended enhancing the existing stipend for MBBS and BDS internees. The department reviewed the committee’s recommendations and then sent them to the Finance Department for approval. However, the Finance Department repeatedly requested more details and clarifications.

These queries were shared with the concerned colleges, and the colleges provided the required information whenever asked. The department carefully reviewed these submissions and then forwarded them to the Finance Department again.

At the same time, the government decided to propose an increase in stipends for students pursuing PG and DNB courses at all medical and dental colleges in the Union Territory of J&K. The department is currently considering these demands and has submitted the proposal to the Finance Department for approval. Once the Finance Department approves, an official order will be issued to implement the revised stipend.
