NEET UG Counselling Official Counselling Process & Guidelines

The NEET UG counselling process plays a crucial role in determining admission to medical and dental colleges across India. After qualifying the NEET examination, candidates must participate in the counselling process conducted by the appropriate authorities to secure admission to MBBS, BDS, and other medical courses.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts the centralized counselling process for All India Quota seats and central institutions through an online platform. Candidates are required to register and complete the counselling process through the official MCC website as per the guidelines issued in the counselling scheme.

This guide provides an overview of the NEET UG counselling process, eligibility requirements, seat allotment procedure, and important instructions for candidates.

NEET UG Counselling Overview

NEET UG counselling is the centralized online process through which eligible candidates are allocated seats in medical and dental colleges based on their NEET rank, category, and preferences.

Admissions through NEET counselling are conducted for:

  • MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery)

  • BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery)

  • B.Sc. Nursing (in select institutions)

The counselling process ensures transparency and merit-based seat allocation across government and private medical institutions.

Counselling Authorities in NEET UG

The NEET UG counselling system is divided into two primary categories:

All India Quota Counselling (AIQ)

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for:

  • 15% All India Quota seats in government medical colleges
  • AIIMS institutions
  • Deemed universities
  • Central universities
  • JIPMER institutions

Candidates from any state can participate in AIQ counselling.

State Counselling

State authorities conduct counselling for:

  • 85% state quota seats in government medical colleges
  • Private medical colleges within the state
  • State universities and institutions

State Quota Counselling

Each state conducts its own counselling for 85% of the seats in government medical colleges and private medical colleges within the state.

Students typically need to satisfy state domicile criteria to participate in state quota counselling. Each state authority manages its own registration portal, application deadlines, document verification process, and seat allotment rounds.

Eligibility for state counselling usually requires domicile or residency criteria as defined by the respective state government.
